On May 6 and 7, the VIII Workshop of the Grup-TLP Barcelona was held. This year the main topic has been the Differential Diagnosis of the Borderline Personality Organization (BPO) and we have had the luxury of having prof. Otto Kernberg. Kernberg is a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, director of the Personality Disorders Institute in New York and Professor of Psychiatry at the Well Medical College, Cornell University. He is the founder of the Transference Focused Psychotherapy and the honorary president of the International Society of Transference Focused Psychotherapy (ISTFP).
With more than 280 registered professionals and reaching different parts of the world, the conference was inaugurated on Thursday, May 6 by Dr. Joan Vegué, vice president of the Grup-TLP Barcelona, and Mrs. Magda Casamitjana, director of the Intensive Boarding Program and comprehensive case of highly complex mental health cases from the Department of Health of the Generalitat de Catalunya. Then prof. Kernberg gave a presentation on differential diagnosis between BPO and the autism spectrum and affective disorders. After a short break, a case of adolescents was supervised by Dr. Tuulikki Trias, a psychiatrist from the Fundació Orienta, who provided the attendees with the vision of the TFP founder on different therapeutic interventions.
The second and last day of the conference, Friday May 7, prof. Kernberg began with his talk on differential diagnosis between BPO and adolescent problems, post-traumatic stress disorder, and ADHD. He continued with the supervision of an adult case, where Mrs. Victoria López, clinical psychologist from CPB-SSM, provided the attendees with a case to reflect on the diagnosis and where prof. Kernberg clarified what is essential to take into account in this process. Finally, Mrs. Natalia Calvo, member of the Board of Directors of the Grup-TLP Barcelona, closed the day by thanking the professor for his excellent contributions and all the attendees for their interest and their great interventions.
From the Grup-TLP Barcelona we want to thank all the professionals who have been part of the conference for their involvement and all those registered for their interest. And especially, thank prof. Kernberg for participating in this event and letting us enjoy his wonderful presentations once again.
During the months of September and November, the last two Meetings with the expert of the year 2019 have been held. Both meetings have generated great expectation and have had a great reception among the professionals who attended.
