Practical tools to improve therapeutic approach and relational management of individuals with borderline personality disorder
Specialized Training
Personality Disorders represent an emerging pathology in the field of Mental Health. It is estimated that between 1 % and 2 % of the general population suffers from Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). The difficulties involved in treatment pose a significant therapeutic challenge.
There are specific psychotherapeutic techniques with scientific evidence of efficacy in treating these patients. Among them, Transference-Focused Psychotherapy (TFP) enables deeper personality modification.
It is a psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapy developed by Professor Otto Kernberg, based on object relations theory. Its fundamental objective is greater integration of the patient’s identity and a significant improvement in functionality across different areas of life, including affective-relational, social, and occupational.
The TFP Barcelona Institute is a section of Grup-TLP Barcelona.. It manages specialized training for professionals in Transference-Focused Psychotherapy and promotes research studies.
Who is it for?
The course is specifically aimed at psychiatrists and clinical psychologists interested in acquiring the theoretical and technical knowledge required for specialized psychotherapeutic treatment of patients with Personality Disorders (especially Borderline Personality Disorder).
Students should preferably have clinical experience in managing these patients. Prior knowledge of psychoanalytic theory or personal analysis may facilitate learning this technique. The course is designed so that a motivated and dedicated clinician can become a competent TFP therapist without prior psychoanalytic experience.
