Members of Grup-TLP Barcelona participate in the 8th International Congress on Borderline Personality Disorder and Allied Disorders

From 7 to 9 September 2026, members of Grup-TLP Barcelona participated in the 8th International Congress on Borderline Personality Disorder and Allied Disorders, held in Lausanne (Switzerland), one of the leading international events in the field of personality disorders.

Under the theme “Transforming the Future: Integrating Lived Experience, Research and Practice”, the congress brought together clinicians, researchers and experts by experience from around the world to share the latest advances in the understanding, assessment, diagnosis and treatment of personality disorders.

The different sessions addressed key topics such as the early detection of personality disorders across the lifespan, differential diagnosis with other disorders, evidence-based interventions, clinical outcomes, as well as new research areas and innovative methodologies, including the application of artificial intelligence and virtual reality in clinical practice.

One of the most notable features of this edition was its commitment to integrating the perspective of people with lived experience, promoting their active participation both in presentations and in discussion spaces alongside clinicians and researchers.

This edition featured internationally renowned speakers, including Babette Renneberg, Mario Speranza, Michael Kaess, Felipe Conus, Barbara De Clercq, Frank Yeomans, Andrew Chanen, Patrick Luyten, Alan E. Fruzzetti, Stephanie D. Stepp, Shannon Sauer-Zavala, Bo Bach and Richard D. Lane.

Contributions from Grup-TLP Barcelona

The participation of Grup-TLP Barcelona was particularly relevant within the congress’s scientific programme, with two poster presentations and two oral presentations, providing an opportunity to share experiences and lines of work developed across different specialised services and programmes for the treatment of borderline personality disorder.

“Framing to sustain: a psychoeducational engagement group in a BPD Day Hospital”, presented by Elisabet Sánchez, psychologist, described a structured psychoeducational intervention designed to facilitate adaptation and therapeutic engagement among people with BPD during the first weeks of admission to a Day Hospital.

“TFP Group Therapy Challenges: Managing Paranoid Transferences”, presented by Eulàlia Ripoll, psychiatrist, addressed the specific challenges that may arise in Transference-Focused Psychotherapy (TFP) in a group setting, particularly in the context of paranoid transference dynamics.

As part of the oral presentations, Marc Ferrer, psychiatrist, coordinated the symposium “Identifying Early Markers of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD): Integrating Clinical and Neurobiological Findings”.

His presentation, “Can we intervene before BPD consolidates? Non-suicidal Self-Injury (NSSI) as a window for Early Intervention”, included an overview of the TaySH Programme, specifically developed for the treatment and management of non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) and emotional dysregulation.

Finally, Núria Ribas, psychiatrist, presented the oral communication “Integrating Embodied Interventions into a Multimodal Day Hospital Program for Borderline Personality Disorder”.

Her presentation focused on this specialised monographic Day Hospital programme for the treatment of borderline personality disorder, with particular attention to embodied interventions as part of the therapeutic approach.
